The story begins with the Bakewell Pudding from Bakewell in Derbyshire. A published recipe exists from 1845 and, over time, the later Bakewell Tart developed the familiar combination of pastry, jam and almond frangipane.
THE STORY
All stories →Bakewell Tart is traditionally associated with raspberry jam and almond frangipane. It looks simple on paper, but depends on good pastry and a filling that does not become heavy.
We use homemade strawberry jam, almond frangipane and a buttery pastry base. It remains recognisably Bakewell, but with the jam we make ourselves.
